A Nokia rep just called me to follow up on my issue... they said they were doing maintenance and that's why some people were having password problems with NM

This problem started for me yesterday.

I have successfully used Nokia Email Messaging for 8 months. Now suddenly the N900 started asking for the password:

"Enter Nokia Messaging password. This is the password for the first e-mail address set up for Nokia Messaging."

I then enter the password. The password is accepted by the application, but within a few minutes the application asks again for the password.

The credentials works fine with my PC to log in at email.nokia.com

When I try to reload the application it just says that the last version is already installed on my phone.

Is there a way to resolve this problem?

hmm this started happening for me about 2 months ago... the only solution i found was to stop using nokia messaging and directly setup my email accounts.... Sucks but i do not want to reflash and i have seen no other solutions! i am also on tmobile in the usda and even retried messaging about a month ago when they fixed the tmo problem, but same thing...

continual password prompts and no email... password works perfectly on the website though!! wish this was fixed, modest really does not do a good job with pop or imap milboxes, near impossible to get mail on any sort of schedule now!

that seems to be a common problem..

I too faced this problem.. but you need to try again & again and you will be able to login sooner or later.. try it on a wifi rather than gprs or 3g..

I've e-mailed Nokia support (no time to call right now). If I happen to hear anything, I'll report back.

If someone has time to call or otherwise hears a response, please post it.

For what it's worth, for a test, I removed the mailbox from my Nokia Messaging account. I then signed up for NM with a second e-mail address and added the original mailbox to the new account and presto! Everything worked.

I then called Nokia and requested a purge of my old account from NM. It took me 45 minutes to get the call escalated high enough to accomplish that. I've been told the request is in a queue and it'll take 48-72 hours to complete.

Once the account has been purged, I should be able to sign up again using my original account and things should work. In the meantime, the secondary NM account is working just fine.

@maax: If there were many other options, I don't think any of us would mess with Modest/NM. Sylpheed supports IMAP-Idle, I believe, but most of us don't want to use an interface that is so non-conforming to Maemo's interface guidelines.

This just started happening to me today, on a brand new Nokia Messaging account that I had to make after my old account failed to make the transition from Trial to Paid and neither Orange nor Nokia could fix it after 2 days of constantly on the phone to one or the other.

So I have a new account on a different email address, have deleted it and re-added it to the n900 but still getting the repeated password prompts and no email.

*sigh* back to Nokia again tomorrow I guess.
