Can I ask why you would need that for a N900?

I don't know much about IPMI, aside from the fact whenever I see a server with an IPMI card in it, I take it out. Makes the boot time at least 3 minutes more, annoying. And nobody uses IPMI.

But anyways, this almost looks like utilities to run on a box that has an IPMI card in it. I guess it does look like there are some remote things you can do if accessing a box with an IPMI card and these tools on it.

Might as well just use the n900 to ssh into the box that has the IPMI card in it and install it on there. Or if you had like 10 servers wth ipmi cards, setup a box that has access to all of them, with scripts and stuff, and then use the n900 to ssh into that.

Seems pointless to install something like this on the n900.

I've gotten my "hands dirty" today and compiled ipmitools from source and it worked (errrr...) out of the box .

You need to install build-essential

1. Add sdk repository to you catalogue:

deb http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk free non-free

2. in a terminal as root
apt-get update && apt-get install build-essential

Then disable or remove the repository again

(for more info view this thread. That's how I did it.)

3. The you edit the file: /etc/fstab. Somewhere in there you see that a disc is mounted on your documents directory. It is mounted as noexec (you won't be able to compile on this disc). So you remove that flag.

4. Reboot. (mount -a didn't work for me.)

Then off you are to compile!! Download the tar.gz file.

tar zxvf impitools-x.xx.x
cd ipmitools-x.xx.x
sh ./configure # why the sh in front of ./configure? no idea but without it didn't work for me.
make && make install.

ENJOY

I don't know how to build a .deb file from here on, would be nice to add that to a repo somewhere.
