What do you mean? Clear the entire device without flashing?

I never tried that option but I'm guessing it will wipe content of home/user/ there is also an option restore original settings not sure what that will do either

Read instructions here on how to "upgrade your firmware", AKA, replace your phone's software with an image of a newer software version:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

Basically you can also apply the image of your current phone's firmware version, resulting in a cleanup of everything installed on your phone.
