I just made a bug-fix version (0.2.0-3) of QSpot available (from devel repository / garage page). This version fixes e.g., a problem with use of high bitrate (updated library and associated dependency).

Hi,
thank you very much for this great app.
i have a problem. very often, just after the buffering, qspot crash (qspot 0.2.0-1,libopenspotify 20101125-1, pr1.3).
let me know if you want more debug info

It is a know problem with the openspotify library (caused by race condition) that random crashes can occur, and this happens more freqently with slower internet connections (and possible also higher bitrates). What type of internet connection / bitrate option are you using?

Hi aenbacka,
i use the lowest bitrate possible in qspot (96kbps) and the crashes happen both with wifi + adsl (640kbps) and with 3g

I know but they do have a QT based native Linux app that does support offline playlists, so hope springs eternal. Having said that, I am in the same boat as you (though I don't see why Spotify need to release a native ARM library if they don't add any features over and above the ones already available in libopenspotify)

In what situation does the crashes most frequently occur (e.g., when selecting a track from a playlist)? And how frequently does the crashes occur (is it e.g., completely random)? Most likely the problem is with the openspotify library; hopefully I will be able to come up with a solution to this problem at some point.

The release of a native library for arm does have benefits other than possible offline playlists support; general stability and performance should be significantly improved.

I just wanted to notify that I have just promoted the current QSpot version (0.2.0-3) to extras-testing; this way I hope to receive more testing feedback etc. So in case you you like it, feel free to vote for it.

Created a few bug reports on Garage (nothing really crucial).

Still trying to get some logs on the app crashing ... (doesn't seem to happen on WiFi though ...)

Thank you very much for the bug reports, it is very much appreciated.. I will look into what can be done to address the issues you have reported. The last issue (with the segfaults on quickly skipping over tracks) is a known issue with the libopenspotify library, which will require some effort to properly fix (I am looking into alternatives).
