The on-screen keyboard in Opera mini is perfect.

I still don't understand why don't we have a portrait QWERTY keyboard

because you would need officially supported apps that run in portrait. Currently there is only "hack" to rotate some apps to portrait, but still they are not designed to be used in portrait. I have seen lately couple of threads where people are hacking official keyblayout to portrait so those threads are worth of watching.

you don't really need the app to be in portrait. This keyboard can be insanely useful for sms and im

What? You started thread by wondering why there is no official portrait keyb popup layout and now you say that app doesn't need to be on portrait but still you would like to use keyb in portrait even thought app is not in portrait....you lost me :|

Well of course I would rather have the app in portrait mode but since this seems "impossible" (ofc it's possible but we're not getting it) we could at least get a portrait VKB... It's still better than having nothing in portrait mode.

I don't really care if conversations are in landscape but the keyboard is in portrait so that I can type using one hand when I drive for example. I'm sure it's easier to create a portrait virtual keyboard like the one in opera instead of changing the whole conversations window to portrait because, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm guessing phone features like conversations are not open source
