I'm certain the N800 camera will pull even marginal codes just fine. I've used a few different apps on various phones over the last 18 months or so and even with a 1.3M camera in a lit room they will pull a code of the back of a packet of well... pretty much anything we have thrown at them.

The QR Code;s definatly seem to work better in lower resolutions than 1D codes but when you get into the more detailed codes you will struggle.

I want to be able to use the N800 as a simple bar code reader(with camera).

Take a look at this project, named: BaToo - Barcode Recognition Toolkit. It is GPL and seems to be working ok.

Maybe a port to the N800, tough complex, can be achieved.

Hope this is useful. Keeps us posted.

As we are seeing everyday, in front of this web page, there is a "Mobile Code", but what surprise, there is no program to read it from OUR N770 nor N800.... And if you click the link, it goes to Nokia.... so, Nokia, please, as you support this feature, bring us a program to use it....

I found that quite ironic as well, and given the proliferation or QR code and variants, I hope that this is addressed soon, I would be glad to be able to finally use it as I keep buying phones what don't support the code readers :P
