I just found out where some of my phone credit was used. Everytime I get abroad (out of Italy), and I connect to the local operator, my N900 will start sending sms messages all by itself to a 391*** number, roughly about every 30 minutes. From Croatia each sms sent will cost me 0,50 euro, and unless I use offline mode I will see my credit drop.
There is no trace of these sms on my N900. I can't find them where all the other messages are saved.I found out these sms were sent by checking my mobile operator (Wind) logfile. I would think some app is hacked to do this, although it seems strange to me that this only happens when I am abroad.I have tried checking with Htop (will list all running processes), but I don't have a clue on what should be running and what shouldn't. Is there some way to check what process is sending these sms, what program runs the process, what is the text in the messages and what is the number they are being sent to? |

Any ideas on how to check what process is sending sms by itself on N900 without leaving any trace?

sms is commonly initiated by a dbus message to the phone daemon
you can spy all the dbus messages in a system wide scope, so you can trace that im not sure how to get exactly your information, but worths a research im sure there is a link in the wiki with information about dbus... let me search a bit |

it might be some embedded sim card thing that was doing some auto roaming adjustment, possible isn't it ? Usually when Im abroad the local operators would send sms to the phone but in your case it could be the other way around.

the link in the wiki for dbus phone instructions is http://wiki.maemo.org/Phone_control
But the exact code to sniff sms sends must be developed |

I should delete all apps, check the sms are not sent anymore (have to go abroad...) and then check every single app hoping to find out the one that causes the issue. Having to move from my country to another does not make this simple at all. |

Hi guys,
I have similar problem, but my phone sends plenty of sms with content and to person which I sent the last message. Reseting n900 doesn't solve this problem. My phone's already sent ~50 sms within 10 minutes! There is a shrot log from dbus.I removed some phone numbers, but If there is more sensitive data, pleas tell me, I will remove it. So guys, what do you think, where is the problem and how can I solve it? |
