Will the apps that have been designed to run on the n900 maemo platform continue to work when switching to meego in october or will it be a case of having to start from scratch with meego apps?

will ovi store support meego (and vice versa)?

what about apps I've paid for through ovi?

can't wait to upgrade to meego in october, but not too keen on losing the dozens of apps I've installed on my n900.

i tjink that a develeping platform exists in wich u can write one scource code and compile for maemo and meego. so the developers should have 2 releases

Those developers using Nokias Qt framework should run on the next device with a few minor customisations. Unfortunately a lot of Maemo apps are written in Gtk+ that being said, I thought that in the next device they will continue to support Gtk+ apps in some form. So hopefully yes, but there is always a bit of work involved in porting between "Maemo" releases. And the SDK not being released yet means that things are probably going to be a little late to "market".

Qt apps will work, GTK+ apps will AFAIK be on a case-by-case basis.

Yes (how well is a different question).

No idea.

Uh. It is not yet known when the community MeeGo-Harmattan-for-N900 will be available (might be October, might be later).

Quick reply...

Both Maemo 5 and MeeGo use Qt framework. Qt applications may work on MeeGo, but they may need repackaging (Maemo 5 uses .deb, and MeeGo uses .rpm). MeeGo also includes GTK+ for compatibility with older, non-Qt applications.

Depending on the device, applications will be provided from either the Intel AppUp or the Nokia Ovi digital software distribution systems.

I hope you will not be disappointed at all.

When will we see the first MeeGo release?
We are planning the project release of MeeGo version 1 in the second quarter of 2010. We expect MeeGo- based products to begin appearing based on OEM and OSV product schedules.
