Definitely will not buy this phone on release day, but if non-fanboy reviews are positive I'll buy for sure..

This is possibily Nokia's last chance to redeem themselves after burning loyal fans recently (n97, n900 if you're not a developer or hardcore linux geek, longer term stock holders). If they screw this up, they should just give up the high-end to reduce R&D costs..

There has to be a reason why this keyboard design flourished in the 80's only...

The Apple or Vaio P keyboard are not true chiclet keyboards, they have normal but low regular keys. This is much better imo.

Well they are still very much profitable company especially when it comes to their core business(selling phones) so i don't really see reason for them to leave high end.
Samsung have had no presence in high end with even much lower market share in smartphones than HTC so why couldn't Nokia at least try with worlds most used smartphone OS that's going more in the low end, mid end and with new high end OS being developed with Intel.

I love how some people already "know" that the keyboard is going to be mushy and terrible.

Because we all want $1000+ phones.

Well, history makes that a fairly safe bet.

While extra storage is always good, I dont see the point of going overboard with 128 MB of RAM.
Do you even erealise that the more RAM the more batter consumptions also ?

Better is the freedom of having a decent amount of inbuilt memory and then some extendable memory.

And also with a huge ram space and 1000's of pics and videos on it, comes the extra overhead of indexing all that on the fly - thus getting speed bumps in performance and complains of "Oh why is the N9 so sputtering when I do things while music is playing or whatever ?".

yea, that would be alleviated with more ram ... id prefer 1gb myself ... you can use an iphone 3g and let me know how that 128mb works out. those specs are from a prediction thread from the forum that leaked the pictures by someone who just rattled off some meaningless ideas, the site fails to list he said superamoled (samsung, short supply) and a 1500mAh battery when the photo shows a 1320mAh ... dont trust everything you read.

They better bringing out applications, game and cool stuff now to hype up the OS before it is released otherwise it will failed badly when competing against the Droids and iOS4. It is not about whose OS has bigger balls, it is about whose OS bigger apps count. People would buy an OS that have a lot of applications and support rather than buying a device that that can only do limited task and apps. Not to mention Nokia bad supporting history with their previous models.
    Couple of things.

I would buy this device even with the number of apps we have now - because

1)Meego is a TRUE opensource linux with upstream changes.

    2) Meego is being actively developed for several devices not limited to cell phones

    3) Qt is the future for all new symbian and Meego devices. Developers I am sure are going to be porting

    4) The zen bound etc games show that porting iphone apps is relatively trivial to the maemo/meego platform. With the future looking to be sym 4 and Meego I see no reason why more apps wont be ported. Specifically games which is what it seems everyone drools for.

    5) I can't go back to android. For several reasons

    i) Interface - once you have used the intuitive/multitasking maemo gui etc going back to android just seems like a massive step backwards. Why the hell do I need a <- key to exit programs.
ii) Splintering of android. Every new phone from every new manufacturer splinters android more. Google have put nothing in place to make manufacturers retain backwards compatibility with intents, param names etc. This means I can write a program that works on one phone - and not on another - despite the fact the both run "froyo"
iii) At LEAST 3 versions of android currently being used on devices in the wild. See above *10.

After looking at the N9 keyboard layout several times now I wonder more and more why Nokia has placed the Ctrl key on the right side.
This make not very much sense in my opionion.

I would like to see a layout more like the one in the attachment.
    • you can move the cursor wordwise while pressing the Ctrl key with the left hand
    • would feel ways better compared to a normal layout
    • it is better for gaming if the game uses the ctrl key

Edit: Okay, I asked here how to raise a Bug about this issue.
