Doing this fluidly requires a certain amount of screenspace, so I have started thinking about ten inches as the size I need.

Since I spent my entire high school and college years carrying a spiral notebook of nearly that size, often schlepping everywhere by bus or hitchhiking without feeling oppressed, I don't see why carrying a tablet in one hand should suddenly seem like a terrible thing.

So I'm thinking small cheap pocketable cell phone and luxurious big tablet as the good combo for me.
I can see this combo being very enticing. Having worked off of an 8.9" netbook screen and having preteneded it was a touch screen, this size seems quite adequate also.

I thnk it comes down to experience. It's hard to imagine the types of interaction over the life of a tablet device.

For example, I have heard many stories of indiviuals whose iPads are more-or-less collecting dust (eg. Anandtech staff). On a similar note, I have read stories about individuals reaching for their 7" tablets much more frequently due to the portability alone, 'mobile phone' os not withstanding. This isn't evidence, but perhaps a hint that a larger size.

The official Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 site is live!

    http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=gHh4q7I8dvWJzhdV

Lets see what the reviews say... The best thing this has going for it is the price. The specs are also roughly comparable to other offerings (eg. the xoom) -- only half the price. If there are no major flaws with this device, it may be worth serious consideration for someone looking into a 10" experience.

Oh, and the keyboard is pretty cool too. What's especially cool about it is that it can function as a make-shift netbook, and extend the battery life to an insane 16 hours (according to Asus).

Looking at the asus transformer, I was thinking:

    - wouldn't it be nice if there's a standard for this sort of thing? so the 'transformer' part of ASUS can be interchangeably connected with other tablets (not just through a bluetooth connection, but also for power charging and even usb hub and memory card slots).

then ... "wouldn't it be nice if they use magnetic mechanism like the iPad2 to hook the parts together? that would make the connection more robust and works with more formfactor/sizes...

    hmmm

..... is apple planning something up this alley by going all magnetic with iPad2?

I think the certain conditions are that you bought the keyboard. which carries extra batteries and costs extra.

This day in Android news: tablet mania!

It looks like Sony is also getting into the mix:

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/04/s...n-us-by-summer

Sony apparently may have a secret full-sized tablet (~9.4") in the works that will be available by the time the summer rolls around...

The Acer ICONIA is up for pre-order on Amazon UK:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Bluetoo...1903329&sr=1-1

The price is great, but having experience with Acer, I would have reservations about the quality. Still, this is a new competitor for mid-level tablets that will help drive the price down, down, down.
