Is it even possible to use the flash light when you film videos in poorly lit areas? I don't see why this isn't standard on the phone. The night video option really doesn't help.

yes you can. you need to install an older version of the flashlight app to do it though. I'm using 0.2-0, and it works perfect.

If you are right you are the man, but please tell me how I go about getting that version of Flashlight app.
