Hello,

I am currently using a Palm Tungsten T, a Sony Erricsson phone and a iAudio U3 MP3 Player.

My question: how far can the N900 replace all these hardware items?
I am a Linux user so shell, emacs & Co are no problem for me...

In detail:
1) how good is the sound quality of the Nokia N900 in comparison to
e.g. iAudio U3, Apple MP3 players (afaik iAudio U3 is better than
Apple iPod) - I am currently using iAudio together with
Koss Porta Pro headphones and Noise Canceling headphones from Sennheiser.

2) Is there a built in notepad functionality or similar, perhaps with encryption like Memo Safe on the Palm platform, where you can
note single items and encrypt them?
If that is not possible:
What about emacs on Nokia N900?
What about PGP or similar on the Nokia N900?

3) datebook functionality seems to be good.
How does it compare to datebook on Palm Tungsten T?

4) Camera: seems to be quite good...how does it compare to
a camera like a Canon S70 or similar (I don't mind less
resolution if pictures are good).

Of course this all depends on applications on the N900.
If it all works out fine, the Nokia N900 may replace 4 hardware
items.

Are there any pages that compare devices to Nokia N900(and
apps)?
I did not find any...

1) Its excellent, I use a decent pair of headphones inc BH505 wireless from Nokia. Quality is superb.

2) Yes notepad, encryption is possible. You can create an encrypted partition if required.
No PGP - Claws Mail PGP doesn't work.

3) Datebook? As in Calendar? Very good, better than any other phone I've had before. Sync with Google using erminig for best results.

4) Camera is good, apps make it better for low light (eg HDR app).
Some great sample photos here http://www.tigert.com/2009/10/18/pho...ney-with-n900/

Don't forget that ACCESS offers a free Palm OS5 emulator for Maemo. You can run all of your legacy Palm applications right on the device.

i'd say the main thing you'd need to worry about is the battery life

Is there a kind of general "kill-switch" to switch off
Bluetooth, Infrared, GPS, FM-Transmitter, Wireless
(and possible other functionality which empties the battery fast) ?

As former Palm user (m505, TT3, Zire 71, TT5) (and my wife use Palm TX now) I have to state -- there are no any device which can somehow be close to Palm's PIM.
Palm Calendar/Contacts/Memo/Notepad/Agendus(!) are for every day using, while all other (which includes N900) are used only as "last resort" because of slooooow speed, lack of functionality, file format spread, half-working syncing.
So, if you're using Palm as PDA, say good by old good days

Somehow I knew that it would not be that easy as with the Palm Tungsten... ;-)

Another question: the writing and recognition on the Palm screen is very good (after you get used to it).
How good is this on the Nokia N900?
Is there also a kind of Graffiti ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graffiti_%28Palm_OS%29 ) as on the Palm?

And yes: I know the Palm emulator for the N900 as a last resort but I'd rather have it all native N900.
