No experience, but it should run, as long as it's on your local network. You'll have to add some extra software to the n800 to mount CIFS (aka windows shares, or samba shares). The kernel modules and some instructions are linked here. There used to be a wiki page on maemo.org, but it's showing up as a 404 right now.

Ok so that Asus device has a built-in ftp server. I haven't been able to find a standard ftp client for the N800, but 'curl' and 'wget' will do ftp. It should also be possible to get a directory listing, e.g.

N800: curl ftp://ip-address-of-asus-wg/

Then
N800: curl ftp://ip-address-of-asus-wg/filename -o filename
to copy the file to your N800.

(The above would need 'anonymous' enabled on the asus though.. you can always modify the above syntax a bit:
curl ftp://test:test@ip-address-of-asus-wg/ using the account I could see at the bottom of that image)

A really interesting option would be to use an ftp filesystem on the N800, but I'm not aware of anyone currently (there's one that needs 'fuse' support and I think it's in limbo at the moment, but there used to be one for the 770). With that you could simply mount the disk and use the normal filesystem commands (and file manager) to acess the device.

Hi,

from my other Computer (MacBook pro and Vista PC) i connect to the Asus WL-HDD with the Firefox Plugin "File FTP"

It is a very good Plugin and it's for free

My question:

There is no ftp program (user friendly) for N770 or N800
  • X-Terminal and GNU Midnight Commander and ftp command is not user friendly
Thanks in advance

Frank
