It's not as bad as that, actually. I have BT deactivated almost all the time, but if I try to connect to my cellphone the N800 activates BT automatically, if I enable GPS in maemo mapper the N800 activates BT automatically, and if I try to send a file through BT from the file manager it'll also get activated.

In fact it's only if I want to enable BT on the N800 in preparation for receiving a file from someone else (e.g. someone wants to send me a picture through BT) that I have to do the long walk through the control panel.

Add BT keyboards to the list of devices that won't automagically enable BT on the N800. If Nokia wants to rely on a service that is in essence unreliable, what should we call that then? Stupid? Lazy? Microsofty?

When I unfold my TO bluetooth keyboard, the N800 seems to "automagically" enable and work. I have no issue with this and I use the BT keyboard everyday.

I try as much as I can to see all the glaring faults of the N800 that others see but I really can't, the only explanation I can come up with is that the hardware QC is terrible and that some users are receiving different quality devices.

I just got a 3G phone for the first time a few days back (unfortunately its only UMTS not HSDPA) and I have found my mobile nirvana, N800 tethered during the day for the increase in power over a smart phone and at nighttime S60 phone only.

Well, mine doesn't. I've tried just about everything, including putting the keyboard in discovery mode. When BT is disabled, it stays that way.

Nevertheless, the N800 has glaring faults, both in hardware, software and user interface.

As long as it remains a device the user has to struggle with to use, "nirvana" isn't exactly the term I would associate it with, unless immediately followed by "Kurt Cobain".

Your statement was "Add BT keyboards to the list of devices that won't automagically enable BT on the N800", a very broad claim, and yet some users are successful in this. I'm not bringing this up solely to split hairs, either-- it is precisely the overly-broad statements that lead to the meaningful differences here (as opposed to the troll-generated ones).

It is unfortunate that some users experience device defects and shortcomings-- as big an evangelist as I am for the tablets, I've been extremely frustrated with them on occasion (you have nooo idea! ), BUT if a certain user says he's satisfied with his particular product and experience then I'm not going to take that away from them... as much as I'd sometimes like to. We each have unique expectations and can't expect everyone to be angered or irritated by our individual peeves. Fact of life.

And just to be generally clear, since it was missed by others in this rollercoaster thread: the main reason I said mobiledivide was appreciated was because of his/her approach to communication, NOT, as one now ignored person mistakenly alleged, the precise nature of the comments. Big difference between the two. By the same token, I appreciate the inputs of many others here with whom I've even disagreed at times, yourself included, because most of you at least try to provide helpful details. Heck, the one guy who's best at it IMO is EwanG, who's had a terrible time and has rightfully criticized consistently!

So I'm hoping we can avoid generalizations for the sake of clarification and relevance. Granted, there are times when they're perfectly appropriate but when it comes to feedback they should be the exception IMO... or at least thought through.

And I wish I could comment publicly vis-a-vis mobile's remark about hardware QA, because I have a wealth of info there, but... that's gotta stay proprietary. However, strong, objective, fact-laden feedback is the number one mechanism you guys have for at least ensuring the situation improves. The tough part is, the very people who can help the most are usually the ones pissed off to the greatest extent... and discouraged from participating in a positive sense. : /

Karel, I'm not trying to flame or anything close, just pointing out a different user experience that is perplexing to me. I now understand better what the problem you are having is, I actually have my connection manager on my simple launcher so that if I need to access the WLAN settings or add a bluetooth device I can do it with a few less clicks. I simply don't disable bluetooth very often.

I have been using Windows Mobile for years, Symbian for years, tried Palm only recently and gave up quickly. All of these operating systems I have used have required a certain amount of patience. I must say that out of ALL the mobile devices I have used this version of Linux is the most versatile. The UI is simple enough for most people to pick up and use and I am now fully comfortable with installing apps and this is increasing its uses daily.

Sure there are issues but I have far less issues with the N800 than my XP tablet. I also don't "struggle" with this device and repeating to me how much I should hate it will not change my opinion. The price/size/utility of the N800 works fine for me if you want to try convince me further of how bad this device is lets spare the forum and just PM me instead.

I have Control Panel on the Simple Launcher tab. It's better than nothing, but a persistent BT icon would make me stop grumbling at least about this problem. It can't be that hard: community coders did it for the 770, and they had to start from practically scratch.

I agree with that completely, and while this is to be by no means taken as anything official, QGil's remarks on bugzilla demonstrate that there's now an understanding of this on the Nokia side and some further thought being put into it.

Everyone needs to vote/comment on that request!

OMG it took you 2 days to send me back these digs. It must have killed you. Also... why not just admit you made a dumb comment and I corrected you and stop the denial? I mean to come back in 2 days with blah blah blah trying to explain your previous comments is really insecure and even though your friends might back you up... you look weak at the core level man.

Why don't you guys just do what I do and leave Bluetooth on all the time? Really, if it's such a hassle to turn it on and off... just leave it on. Problem solved.
