Why does it only work on wifi?

It doesn't work for me. It finds where I am (usually) but when I click share, it takes forever to load and just hangs there

Dude,,,install maemo geolocation pluggin,,restart the phone.
go to settings and open Location ,,and uncheck options of enable for location and network positioning.

    open firefox browser,
make sure you are on wifi,
    go to www.touch.facebook.com on firefox

Dont hit the places tab,,just click the symbol which looks like a pointer. As soon as you click it,,it asks you whether do you want to share your location.Just say allow and when the gps options open dont check the enable options...just leave them blank and hit done.

As soon as you do this the locations near you popups in the browser ,,just hit what ever location you want to Check In.

    Good luck

If anyone has an external bluetooth GPS unit they could see if that reports a location. It seems odd that touch.facebook.com won't get the GPS coordinates while almost any other location aware website (like Google Maps mobile) picks it up just fine.

I have had limited success with this (though I haven't tried in the last week or two). But I was able to get this far on both microb and firefox. I got the "locations near you " popup and was able to select a location from a list of those nearby to check in. But then I just got endless "wait animation" (the progressive flashing bars) and no eventual checkin.

I was able to check in once with firefox, though I can't figure out what was different from all the other times I tried to check in but was unsuccessful. I don't have a problem with geolocation or gps...it finds me just fine and offers the locations nearby. Something else in the final step seems to be the problem, and I would guess it is because they tested it only on iPhones.

One possible experiment: try it on chromium (or something else webkit-related). Perhaps it wants to be running on a webkit browser.

Do you have Maemo geo location installed from application manager

From what I read the PR 1.2 has the geolocation installed but I could be mistaken.

I haven't had any success with this on the default browser but firefox works. I prefer firefox because all my passwords are saved through sync and when I'm checking in I want it to be as quick as possible.

Some background, I am always on Verizon MiFi and have no SIM card in the phone (no 3G)

BTW: is there a way to make firefox the default browser on the phone? Also, is there a way I can put a firefox shortcut on my desktop?

I presume from the experience listed here (which mirrors my own), that there's no N900 solution and that the problem lies at the Facebook end of things.

I did try on WiFi at home and that didn't seem to work on either Firefox or MicroB and I've had the same error as everyone else when actually 'checking-in' on GPRS too.
