True Say.. But remember the time when we could ask 'Niklas Savander' questions via Twitter? Many people asked questions regarding Maemo.. So there is a slight chance, that there might be something new...
Oh yeah.. And btw wasn't it Anssi Vanjoki who promised us Ovi Maps with Navigation?? He is scheduled to have a talk, so once again, there is a slight chance for surprises...
It's anyway the execs who introduce the new devices and software in Nokia World usually so you are right that not having specific Maemo/MeeGo speaker like Ari Jaaksi who leads Nokia's MeeGo/Maemo part doesn't mean we wouldn't see Maemo announcement.
I woulnd't expect Maemo specific announcements, but maybe example qt written OVI maps that will be available in S^3 and Maemo devices.
Meh we will see in September 14.
I actually wish Nokia would use N900 more as an experimental platform, to test new things from Beta Labs for example. There are plenty of users in the N900 community who would love to test new things that Nokia has to offer.
they do experiment on N900, didn't you see all the stuff on youtube channel, we just don't get anything of it, that's all =)
wouldn't it make sense to release pr1.3 alongside the N8 so all the devs can get straight on it, then they can pick the best apps out ready for meego
Considering the N8 runs Symbian and won't even be QT compatible why would it matter if it comes out when the N8 does? It's N9 that will be running Meego-Harmattan.

i thought the new symbian were gonna be qt compatible :s
maybe i should pay more attention
I think the issue here is that they would have to develop for - and gather feedback from - an OS and h/w platform that are both dead.
Not sure how much that would aid in any beta labs efforts.
Well, that's one way to see it. However, there are still "a few" more people using Maemo 5 than MeeGo. And they are still selling N900. Then there's Qt.
One of the key things is the competition, public beta testing on something that might interest other manufacturers is always a risk.

the N8 is based around QT, for example Gravity on N8 is written in QT and it looks brilliant
