Is there a way to install bitlbee? I tried a .deb with dpkg -i but it came up against dependencies which I queried with apt-get -f install and it wanted to remove most of my system"! I would like to get bitlbee running in irssi in screen -- I have the last two working nicely, so any help would be appreciated...

Cheers

Here's what dpkg said

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of bitlbee:
bitlbee depends on libevent1 (>= 1.3e); however:
Package libevent1 is not installed.
bitlbee depends on libgnutls26 (>= 2.4.0-0); however:
Package libgnutls26 is not installed.
bitlbee depends on adduser; however:
Package adduser is not installed.
bitlbee depends on debianutils (>= 1.16); however:
Package debianutils is not installed.
dpkg: error processing bitlbee (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
bitlbee
