Deep thought: is the N900 a great device because it is so hard to brick it, or should we complain that the device is not powerful enough or open enough to allow itself to be bricked?

Ah, but can you run that command (blindly) after rebooting your n900? (I'm not sure, myself).

    Reboot the device
Wait for nokia tune to play, give a few more seconds.
    Ctrl-Shift-X
gain root, if needed, by typing "sudo gainroot"
    "play xomap"

I presume this would fix the problem, not requiring any visual input whatsoever. I might be wrong, though.

    (...)

Ok, so after going through this thread, we can only assume that this thing can't be bricked. Or at least perma-bricked.

Did I say you couldn't run anything after 'stop xomap'?

Anyway it's nothing productive here. Just avoid issuing that command.

No, it's not that can couldn't see anything, you can still see the desktop and you can reboot; but you just couldn't run anything after issuing the command.

Like I said before: dare you try it and come back to tell us if your N900 is not bricked?

It's supposed to just stop the xserver. I meant to have it restarted itself after killing it, turned out it doesn't; I reboot and found that I couldn't issue any command...for some strange reason the system couldn't start xomap properly.

After hours of researching I reflash to return it to normal, so I sent warning to others not to try this command, turned out some people find it hard to believe.

the second option means that the command doesn't brick anything.
Oic, by bricking it he meant not being able to save it by any means. I see.

Then bricking it is simple, just use a sledgehammer.....
