Okay, I think we are arguing for different things.

Xagoln seems to want the default to be set for all CSSU'd devices as power saving off.

I'm saying leave the default default on power saving max (so default behavior doesn't break for those who want it), BUT find a way to make it read a gconf flag or something, and let usets change what they want their devices default to be.

Might need a recode of the WiFi settings applet though...

I'm thinking of non-technical users here. The benefit of maximum power-saving is some increase in battery life where it's properly supported, sure. But if you have to reload often before a page comes up, any savings could be moot.

I think a Gconf setting is a good idea, but I would still argue defaulting it to max compatibility (after all, technical users can easily change the default back to max). In bug 12237, Joerg was proposing some heuristics/tests to check if an AP supported power-saving could be run automatically.

We are all grateful if we weren't we wouldn't of downloaded the CSSU in the first place. However I think most users would like some kind of update as to when we might expect an update as it seems pointless having to check this thread morning, noon and night to see if another update has arrived.

I have checked the CSSU IRC but that give no clues in this regard.

I do appreciate the work the developers do in their own time is fantastic and as probably stopped me getting a new phone However an update on progress every now and then wouldn't go a miss? As it would only take 5 mins to type and we have had them in the past and really would make the CSSU that much better.

Then downgrade:

This isn't going to work as the CSSU depends on the newer modest.

It does uninstall the metapackage, yes, but it works (only the metapackage is removed).

For those affected by the Modest crasher bugs, this is the happy medium.

In the long run it wouldn't be just a power user thing my way. Someone would either code an addition along those lines to the settings applet, OR more likely, the CSSU features configurating apps would provide interfaces for changing it.

And then the next autoremove e.g. fapman will remove all CSSU components...

Just saying that this needs to be done carefully.

Thanks. I don't do autoremoves, so I wouldn't have thought of that.

Going off on a tangent (hence the new thread), some digging I've been doing might be useful for the CSSU.
