I had the same issue with shortcutd and the internal camera app starting always if I touched the trigger. Back cover was alright too. But the main reason I had to send it to repairs was that the N900 couldn't find my memory card. At all. Flashing the FW did not help.

All that started at the same time. I'm thinking that something went bad with the sensor that has the back cover magnet as a counterpart.

Hopefully I get at least a repair report, if I don't get a new device =D The magnet sensor has to be on the motherboard, fixing it might be too expensive.

Oh well, time will tell.

PS. I do have the Joneses - this is my first week without the N900 since I got it. No other phone will do =D

I think I have this same problem. Any press of my camera button starts the camera app, even if the lens cover is closed. The phone knows the lens cover is closed, because it's known by the other camera apps, as well as that utility that tells you all the phone status stuff (I forgot the name). Does anyone know why this has started happening?

exact. same. problem

my n900 wont read sd cards and camera goes on at half press of the shutter button - i called nokia and they told me its SUPPOSED to work like that!

also my phone is out of warranty and although the sd card not being read is a manufacturers defect, they still wont fix it because its out of warranty!

just ripped my phone a part. cleaned everything up, made sure nothing was obstructing the sensor and still the damn bug is there! Its odd, I can half press the button to launch the camera app, but if the app is not launched and I open the lens cover the app doesn't launch. GRRR!!!!

This is an alternative option (maybe a solution):

1. Install "Flashlight"
2. Install "Flashlight-Extra GTK"

If you installed them correctly, when you open the cover of the lens, a pop-up message should appear asking you to run the camera or the flashlight.

I dont know if it solves the "halfpress" problem, but its worth trying..

Good luck
