My screens cracked and I need to backup my device onto another n900. the Usb port is dodgy 2

If the touch part still works, you can use the video cable to hook it up to a TV - it takes a bit of trial and error, but doable.

if attilla's idea doesn't work you can bring up an x-term window with ctrl+shift+x , but i dont know if there is a command for backup from there...
backup to memory card to avoid using usb.

if you can't figure out the video out part, maybe you can install and start a vnc server from xterm, and then control it from your PC.

If you have a phone without a working display and need to backup it, this would be one of the models where you have the most options. You can even use the Nokia software (over air) for a lot, can't you? Or is it no-bluetooth...

Luckily for me, although the LCD was cracked the resistive touch seemed to work ok still, so did it on the TV backup complete. cheers everyone
