Why will viewing images on the N900 present the same problems as the X6? There is nothing wrong with viewing images on the N900. It's a much better system on the N900 than it is on s60v5 X6. I've already said this earlier in this thread.
Just buy the damn thing already.
OK, so the image "problem" is out. Good!
I should go to see it IRL in a shop next week end. And see some street price.
One question more: is there a way on n900 to extract all text from a pdf into a txt file?
I keep having 3 little things in doubts:
1) if the problem I have with a lot of images on the symbian of the x6 it'd be the same on n900.
Actually, I was just playing around with the picture manager of the N900 this weekend; I dumped a pile of something like 1000 pictures on the thing to see how it would handle it. A "thumbnailer" app started running for something like an hour or so, causing everything else to slow down; but, once it finished, the thing had no problem at all. My only other experience, as I've probably mentioned before, is with the iPhone; on that, if you run through a large set of pictures quickly, the device has to pause after about 100 pictures or so (probably to pre-load data or something). I haven't yet seen the same pause on the N900; you can apparently blow through the entire set of thumbnails as fast as you can scroll...
2) I like the capacitive screen of the x6 (for its strenght and resistance), I don't like his lack of precision but I don't worry to put the mobile in my pocket without a folder (but not with other objects)
Well, here's where most opinions diverge on the N900. I personally really like the resistive screen. Yes, it is not as durable as a glass touchscreen, and yes, that means I've been more worried about allowing it to bump into things than I was with a capacitive screen. But the increase in precision is amazing!
Honestly, I've never felt comfortable with putting the N900 in my pocket. Then again, I never really put my iPhone in my pocket either, so I'm probably not going to help you much with this one.
3) The lack of support from Nokia, but I hope that with the community it'll be a no problem.
And here is where "open source" makes all the difference. Nokia may or may not provide any support in the future, but if they do not, others can step in and provide fixes for code where the source is available. And even if they do not, you yourself can download the source and support yourself. It may not be easy, but unlike all the other options out there, it is possible.
Copernicus , I agree with you in everything, and who needs nokia when Mohammad and many people in this forum are doing such a great job with the CSSU!!
With Nokia we asked if there was going to be an update that semester.... with CSSU we ask if there is going to be an update today! (and today we have an update!)
Oh come on, 7 pages of people spoonfeeding you the features of the phone and praising it to high heaven, and you still think "maybe yes"?
I'm not trolling at all! Sorry if I gave you this idea.
In a lot other threads there are a lot of people with problems or talking about lacks of n900 so I preferred ask here.
