Hmm...do you realize Nokia OS is something else?

Symbian is licensed to other mobile manufacturers, like Samsung, so you can find a Samsung Symbian phone; while Nokia OS is not licensed to anyone else, the source isn't released, no API is provided; but can still be programmed with Java ME.

People believe that Nokia OS sold more than any other mobile OS, but we don't have the exact figure as Nokia never annouces it.

No offense, but where did you learn that kind of knowledge? I just want to know.

Of some of them, yes. Microsoft in particular has taken advantage of some open source code and open standards to their benefit *and* to the detriment of the open source community and consumers in general. Why would Linux users want to help the company that is trying to "extinguish" their favorite OS?

I guess a lot depends on who your intended user is. If you are making code to help corporations (that sell proprietary software), then sure, release your code as BSD. If you are trying to help everyone else, release it as GPL. I personally view corporations as greedy, selfish, and short sided. So, I don't particularly see why I would want to help them.

OK, so you may be sincere. I can respect that. We just view the situation differently.

I really hate iOS UI, I really like OS X because it is based on UNIX and has a native X terminal. Since Apple is working to make OS X like iOS should I be worried? Let me re-emphasize that I HATE iOS IU and think it is total rubbish. Imagine Stevie Jobs removing the windowed interface from OS X AND the file system with the intent of satisfying the "common" user!

They're supposedly merging (the best of) OSX and iOS in Lion (10.7). So far I've only heard positive reviews of them.

Well, I have been around for some time, since longer than the beginning of Nokia phones. "that kind of knowledge" is what you pick up. I have also used Symbian before it was installed on any Nokia phone. But tell me, what OS is installed in more devices than S40? I know OSE and nuceus are installed in an awfull number of devices.

Sadly 5 months before the realzation of a Windows Phone the CEO gets canned and a new one chooses an entire new path to take. Seems like the merry go round Nokia has been in for a long while now.

The thing is with WP7 UI is it looks cool for about 10 minutes until you start missing what Maemo easily allowed for ... a desktop, simple notifications, multitasking at the Maemo calibre, seamless integration with communications protocols (Skype built in, SIP built in, IM's built in and all integrated with the contacts), and things being at your fingertip rather than having to know intricate gesture patterns that requires an operators manual.

Damn what a waste , to go back to the stone ages called WP7. At this scale WP7 is not even half as mature as Maemo and if MeeGo was part Maemo then definately it is a step back anyway you cut it. MS must be paying for this loyalty, and Nokia must be angling for AD money and location based services powered through their Navteq subsidiary.

The key to Steve Jobs' success is that he has never tried to satisfy the common user. Steve Jobs simply makes technological devices to fit his own image of what a technological device should be. If only other companies were led by people with such resolve...

Anyway, yeah, OS X is going to turn out looking like whatever Jobs wants it to look like. You benefit from this where your views match Jobs' views, and suffer where they don't. Luckily, if you like Unix, you can always put Linux on your machine.

As I said, I believe S40 is the most used OS of all. You on the other hand, give the impression that you know better. Well, what is it, do you know better, or do you only like to give the impression that you do, without actually knowing anything at all?
