I haven't seen mention of this software, here. It's an excellent video conversion tool, that outputs files that play perfectly with Mplayer. I havent converted too many videos for the N800 (I'm a PalmTx convert), but those that I have done have looked excellent (to me) at a bitrate setting of 300.
Select one of the higher end Archos devices when configuring so that you can get the high resolution. By default I think you're set to 320x240 Palm resolution - you'll want to change that.
Windows XP. Free.

Are you sure you tried the same software? I see at least twice as many output options in PocketDivXEncoder, including audio. Click on the Advanced Tab. Maybe I missed some secret options page in the N800Converter? Can you point me to video sources that did not play back smoothly with Mplayer?
Thanks.
