I have two 770s and an N800 (pre-ordered the 770, got the N800 a day early at CompUSA ), and I have to recommend the N800. The speed boost is pretty significant, screen quality is higher, software support is better, and two SD card slots are a godsend. You can get around the hardcover issue (power management wise) by setting up a long-press on the power button as a soft power-off. Unless you keep lots of sharp objects in your pocket, the touchscreen will be just fine. I've been carrying in the bundled sunglasses case with my various cellphones (Nokia 6682, N93 and Samsung SCH-A717) and a set of earbuds and I haven't had any damage to the unit.

The biggest argument for choosing the N800 (in my opinion) is the greatly improved media support. If you have any plans of watching videos (the thing is almost a perfect portable movie player, especially when flying) or listening to music the extra storage will come in handy and the improved playback speeds will get you much better quality.

Of course, my analysis is biased towards a similar street price for both devices and a 50% break on the 770 is a pretty compelling discount (not a terrible price for an extra battery for the N800, either ).

Mhm... Which major improvements? We all hoped there would be some in the newly released firmware, but it seems there's little more in it than SDHC support. (Don't get me wrong, SDHC support is nice, but hardly feel an urge to have it; I'm content with my cards as they are.)
