Unless he knows for sure he was testing the final hardware that doesn't mean anything. Also test builds of harmattan may have had features removed or disabled to prevent information from leaking. (Such as there being no terminal to make it harder to get at hw and package information).

Let's take a made up example: Suppose Nokia is releasing a device with some new revolutionary battery tech that will allow it to hold a charge 10 times that of normal batteries (I'd consider that disruptive ). If they want to keep this a secret testers (that isn't testing battery management, but something else) gets a device that is hacked to only charge to 10% and report that as 100%. People that can't see the new feature can't leak information about it.

This means we can't fully trust "not there" information leaked by testers because it may have only been "not there" in their test device.

I hope someone will ask Kurt, which drivers are closed sourced.

Sure this thread is about rumors but imo people are over thinking these words. I fear i have seen all this too many times, don't get too carried away with marketing words or one word from a "insider".

N97 has been on of the couple of non leaked high end smartphones from Nokia and that event was according to Nokia "the event of the year".
