I am curious why it is not in the mainline repos? It is pretty standard Linux stuff.

'Cos no-one has got round to it?

This is a community, and you mentioned "I would think a quick easy scratchbox compile would do the trick", so why not contribute?

Yes I did a double thread, my bad, forgot I had already asked, so very sorry. Thank you all who contributed for the help.
I unfortunately don't have disk space on my / partition for scratchbox, turns out there was a working .deb if you DL it to local and install as per the thread.

I took screen from sdk-repository, renamed it to the 'screen-n900' and pushed to the extras-devel.It seems to work on device. If you think so also, I can promote it to the extras-testing. (And change category to user/..)


Changes:
*removed whining line on postinst
("/var/lib/dpkg/info/screen.postinst: line 23: /usr/sbin/add-shell: not found"

*emoved whining line on postrm
("/var/lib/dpkg/info/screen-n900.postrm: line 17: /usr/sbin/remove-shell: not found"

*changed 'xterm' to the '*xterm' on screenrc
("Aborted because of window size change")

*dropped some dependencies
(${misc:Depends} = debconf, dpkg, install-info)
