keep getting a dpkg error 1
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Hi Guys, It's been a long time that I'm using this Hildon Desktop and I'm very satisfied of the result. The only thing I wanted to ask is HOW TO LOCK THE DESKTOP TO PORTRAIT MODE?? When I'm in portrait mode and I want to lock to Portrait mode, it goes automatically to landscape. Thanks in advance!!!

so i made a patched .deb for hildon-desktop

NOTE : ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T USE CSSU

    installation instructions :

1-) Download the original hildon-desktop portrait from 1st post or from HERE
    to MyDocs
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    2-) install it by
    Code:
    sudo gainroot
    dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/hd_18_07_2011.deb
ignore if any problems occur saying that you have unmet dependencies
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3-) Download the patched verstion of hildon-desktop from attachments or from HERE
    to MyDocs
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    4-) install it by
    Code:
    sudo gainroot
    dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/hd_18_07_2011_patched.deb
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS : DON'T FORGET TO INSTALL THE ORIGINAL HILDON-DESKTOP FIRST I MEAN DON'T IGNORE STEP 2

    i hope i helped cheers

PS : MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A PREPARED BACKUP UNTIL SOMEONE CONFIRM IT'S WORKING WITHOUT TROUBLES

This method worked, but I can't seem to open the desktop customization menu. What should I do?

cheers Mohammad but i'm using ccsu and karam says it's for people who don't use cssu.
i think the way i did it messed up my device i still don't know fully if i've sorted it.
i've installed 100 boxes and that worked ok so i'm guessing so.

just installed tweego and it's not returning that error

just tried apt-get upgrade and got this:
    home/user # apt-get upgrade
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
    libqtm-12 libqtm-12-contacts libqtm-12-declarative libqtm-12-location libqtm-12-messaging
    libqtm-12-multimedia libqtm-12-publishsubscribe libqtm-12-serviceframework
    libqtm-12-systeminfo libqtm-12-versit
The following packages will be upgraded:
    hildon-desktop libcv4 libcvaux4 libhighgui4
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 10 not upgraded.
Need to get 3088kB of archives.
After this operation, 4096B disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n
    Abort.
    /home/user #

this will just re-install over portrait desktop wouldn't it?

i guess you can fix it by doing this :

    Code:
    gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/menu_edit_disabled -t bool false

    @corduroysack
don't do that this will reverse to the old hildon-desktop
just install the one from the 1st post as long as you use CSSU and ignore any updates about hildon-desktop
