I had exactly the same thing. The guy at Nokia Care said Nokia didn't even try to repair it and gave the n8. They asked for the e7 but Nokia didn't gave it.
Listen..i also gave my N900 for USB repair to Nokia..the issue was esclated to Nokia Finland helpers on Tweeter too... and i get a call from Delhi( india) Nokia that i may get a N8 if they are not able to fix my N900.. i give them some BShit that a hardware QWERTY is my primary requirement so either give me a E7 or my N900 repaired... and they repaired my N900 magically! ..its coming back tomorrow!
Call them up .. send a tweet to @Nokiahelps tell them about this... crying wont do much good... You should get a N900 or an E7 ! just state a full qwerty is your primary requirement!

My N900 was also out of warranty.

Tell me Nokia India has treated you like this.. they are not paying heed to your primary requirement which is a full qwerty! A N8 wont do..If you at all wanted to buy a full touchscreen phone im sure it would have been an Iphone or something like that..state the facts..and be a bit hard...
