on topic : 10 $ isnt a big money ,every one can donate that . i expect from every one .maemo is always alive and is gonna remain like that .
stay cheerio
I rather think about donation for keeping servers/repositories alive, i.e. self-funding of Maemo (under different name, probably, due to trademark issues).
Still, I would donate much more without any doubt. Ho ever, for me it should be "how much would you like to donate a year". cause now it's very unclear - one time donation, once for year, once for month?
How much money do we need to actually make this a feasible option?
On a related note Nokia did donate $50000 to the gnome foundation to work on the hildon stuff. Read this and this. It shows an example of what you get with that amount of money.

We're not in a hurry to start passing around the hat for that one. But IMO that is the way to go after Nokia stops paying the bills (as discussed in some other thread already).

So if around 10% of Maemo members donated $10 in round one of funding that would raise $55000, which considering the amount of work GTK+ involved should buy quite a bit [from http://www.igalia.com

But do we have 5,500 ACTIVE members? I doubt it...
I'd say we have around maybe 100 very active members* and maybe around MAXIMUM 1000 somewhat active members**. The rest of the people are all dormant. Now even if all these 1000 people donate on an average 15$, that comes to about 15k $. And I feel that even that is very optimistic.
So, lets think this way, with 15k $, what can we do?
