i don't understand the skills problem... however, without usb, it's useless, so if you break something when soldering de pins, there is no differences, the device still useless.

Honestly, since i tried nitdroid, i'm not sure about android... where is the multitask things ? it's so boring to navigate betwin windows !!
Maemo is the perfect os on a powerful 900mhz 32gigas device.

If we where all closer, then no problem, i would fix all your N900's, but the soldering down is VERY easy to do, else you must know someone that works with electronics, even on a hobby level, which is what i consider my skills to be (hobby/general purpose).

Sending N900 to me and getting the USB soldered can be done, but you will miss your N900 for x days, and the shipping cost will probably be well not cheap, i would not take more then about 20$ for the "work".

Also Good Bye to op, at some point there will not be many left here, only us that needs our N900 because nothing else offers what it does.

Thanks again - Didn't mean for this post to turn into a big USB debate - I just dont have the skills or tools to open, disasemble fix & reasemble it unfortunatly & since my upgrade is due i thought i would give android a try.

There are success stories of usb port restoration here in Nokia Philippines, though. Plus I have filed down my usb connector and charger's 'teeth'.
Suggestion: one could make a business out of that by soldering
all the broken N900s.
Of course one with the appropriate tools and skills (not me,
I do not have the tools and I only have minor soldering skills).
And of course there are issues of a legal nature for this kind of
business.

Which is exactly why I'm looking for a second hand one and will probably hang around a little longer. There is no alternative.
