I just tried running apt-get update and it ran fine for me in California, so the servers appear to be up.

Try to reboot your device and apt-get update again.

Syria... I wouldn't be at all surprised if your internet connection was having political issues. I'm sorry to imagine such a thing and hope you can get this resolved.

Interesting that you tried TOR and still no joy. I assume you've rebooted a few times (hey, I know this is Linux, but when in doubt it sometimes helps when you're in a hurry).

Could you ping the servers? How about telnet on port 80? Port 22? 21? Try tests both via transparent/direct internet and via TOR to see if the results are the same...? I expect ping and port 22 at least to succeed, given the error returned via https://

I think it's possible to change how apt-get connects (i.e. port/service) so that might be something to look into.

Please post apt-get -V update later to see if it's the same or different from your previous output. Maybe this is a temporary glitch on the repos... but maybe it's a technical problem specific to your setup - with a technical solution out there somewhere.

Either that or it's the WP7.5 Mango OTA 'upgrade' for N900!

thank you all for your fast responding

dear AWasisto I've tried that but still no luck

dear shallimus i don't think that's related to any political issues since that errors appears about 10 month ago " way before any political parties even start" any way... even if Nokia block their sites i think i would be able to have access after using TOR or OpenVPN
cuz they tunnel you to a different network

- pinging the the repo returned successfully

reboot the device.... upt-get update

the following result

I see that ashes has:
"W: GPG error: https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com ./ Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY ADB4438160A655EF"

and you are using
https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com
all over.
I guess (did not check this) that there is some issue with the keys.

Also I do not know why you did:
"- changing the DNS in resolv.conf to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 did not work"
Did you set some DNS manually?
If you need that: did you try http://www.opendns.com/ ?

I would guess this is due to the PR1.3.1 update being pushed.

That's also possible.
