    Confirmed, tested 1 sec ago. I put the cursor in de middle of this URL, type 3 letters, in the vkb the letters were added in the middle. Closed vkb and these letters where added in front of the inputbox.

    I couldn't reproduce it twice, wanted to make screenshot for completeness sake but I couldn't reproduce it the second try :P

    @mi_pingu,

    Thanks for confirming. Hey, perhaps the CSSU-guys could work on landscape support for the N900? (for a change and fix this bug!

    Come on, now we have the sources it should be fixable. And maybe you've missed it , but sources are in CSSU repo on gitorious :P

    Is there a bug already opened? If not, someone to open one, please.

    Yup but reporting the bug requires all this tiresome reproducing , and why fix it myself when somebody else will do it?

    Really, if only I had the time I would jump head-first into the entire source code (or binaries, for all I care) of Maemo and try to fix a number of things.

    naah, you got me wrong, I didn't mean you should fix it. but steps to reproduce is a must, it will help a lot.

    @reinob
    now that You remind the same issues in landscape mode, I can remember them too (I just rarely use vk in that mode).
    So it`s a bug which:
    - is present in landscape and portrait mode,
    - on vk view everything is ok, but not on actual text field,
    - in portrait it is much more frequent,
    - it`s roots are in Nokias PR (confirmation needed from users with stock, non-CSSU system).

    100% repeatable, freshly rebooted N900, latest CSSU thumb, kernel 2.6.28.10-cssu3, forced rotation, no orientation lock enabled:
    1a. landscape orientation, launch terminal (busybox 1.20.2power3+thumb0 here), touch screen to invoke vk, put a long line of "b" (or other, doesn`t matter), dismiss vk, put cursor inside line and invoke vk, put few "g" in the middle/beginning of the line of "b"s, dismiss vk, "g" are at the end of the line.
    1b. exactly the same in portrait orientation.

    How about this for a mock-up?

    It's from an old touch keyboard I used to use in my Palm days called Mini-Keyboard. It was surprisingly effective with the diamonds for keys vs trying to fit everything in rectangular buttons.

    In fact, I tried it on GarnetVM on my N900 and I can type very quickly there in portrait mode.

    I had planned to try to learn QML by building a version of this and calling it manually in my apps (similar to how Opera does it), but if it could be available system-wide, that would obviously be better.

    I can't imagine writing on it, but still, thanks for coming out with idea.

    BTW, I think it doesn't comply with Nicolai's warning about menu/space/enter/shift being not possible to modify much.
