    How long is your ring tone John (in file)? If it's longer than 40-ish seconds, could you try trimming it down (since it never plays more than 40 anyway) and try the test again?

    I'm just thinking that may be pulseaudio is trying to cache the full sound file, and when it can't it loads the default known-small tone instead? Can't hurt to try, especially if you're using a larger file for a ring tone (like an mp3 of a song).

    My ringtone is a 30 sec mp3 file and I had problems with it. But the problems of not playing were also with other default notification sounds (alarm; sms; e-mail) and sometimes also the default ringtone (Nokia Tune) just did not play...

    I have the same problem, switching from mp3 to nokia ringtone didn't change anything.

    For me only first notification sound after reboot is played.

    edit:
    works after installing pulseaudio packages from Pali

    to all those who have installed pali's latest patches AND still have ringtone problems - please post information about your ringtone (flie size, format, length of play time). this might help.

    also, please try switching to any of the ringtones that come with the phone (as opposed to a custom ringtone) and see if you still have the issue.

    i'm using the default Tinker ringtone that comes with the phone. been using the phone the whole of yesterday and i've had no issues with the ringtones.

    In this last version I change slot allocation policy to upstream configuration, so we have more slots, enough slot size for network streaming but also pulseaudio can drain more RAM...
    pali, is the "slot count" used anywhere else in the sources? that might be the problem. maybe try increasing slot count back to 1024 but decrease slot size so that total memory usage is still 16mb? i.e. use the PR 1.3 values.

    ----EDIT---
    i had a quick 5 minute look and i see PA_MEMPOOL_SLOTS_MAX being used in

    Code:
    pa_mempool* pa_mempool_new(pa_bool_t shared, size_t size) {
        pa_mempool *p;

        if (size <= 0)
            p->n_blocks = PA_MEMPOOL_SLOTS_MAX;
    i guess next step is to find out where pa_mempool_new is being called from....

    Today I upgraded from stable to testing and I've found a nasty surprise.

    No background, no desks, no menu button, no controls ... Before arriving here the screen flashes a few times. Is there a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

    try dpkg -l | grep -i pulse
    Check which packages you have already installed and swap them.

    I was wrong, after a longer time I noticed that sound was not played at all while I received one message (I have recieved more and it is fine in most cases) and I got default ringtone for call once.
    Ringtone that I'm using is 5.1 MB mp3 file.
