Back to video chat, so we can give up Peregrine for now. I personally think they were bought over by Elop, hence the reason for their weird behaviour. Anyway what about video calls over the network with the video transmitted over wifi/3G? Even Bada can do this.

I'd say the real reason is that Peregrine couldn't get the necessary approval from Skype to use their protocol. Two years ago Skype pulled support from Fring and Nimbuzz, and tbh I don't know of any third party app that has Skype video support. Look how long it took for an official client to appear on Windows 7 Mobile.....

Still doesn't explain their weird behaviour. They appear to be shameful to face Harmattan users. Now that PR1.2 has support for video calls do developers still need Skype protocol?

Peregrine could be content with XMPP. No need to look for Skype's approval to make a workable text/media chat.

As for Android phones, the Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich OS versions should have a 'Talk' or 'GTalk' version that natively works with N9 videochatting. Check the software version numbers of those devices, because many Android phones did not receive the upgrades that they were promised (I'm looking at you, Samsung). The Android Talk native views should show videocamera-shaped icons next to the names of N9 users, just like the icons in the Google videochat desktop experience.

Likewise, we should have the videochat option for those Android users as well.

Lennon can't Skype with any phone on the market.
