    I have a Nokia N9 PR1.3.

Any idea what is going wrong?
    Well, permissions problem

Did you issue dpkg command as root ?

    Yes, I followed your steps:
    Code:
    $ devel-su (rootme)
    # wget https://openrepos.net/sites/default/...24.3_armel.deb --no-check-certificate
    # dpkg -i emacs_24.3_armel.deb
Or do I need to do anything else?

    Should work, I just tested.
Perhaps it can help me, if you post the complete output when you try to install this.

hmm, might be because of failed attempt.
    Can you try (as root)
    Code:
    # apt-get clean
    # apt-get update
    and then, once more,

    Code:
    # wget https://openrepos.net/sites/default/...24.3_armel.deb --no-check-certificate
    # dpkg -i emacs_24.3_armel.deb

I have done the steps you mentioned but got the same error messages as before.

Do you have a stock kernel on your N9? My N9 is a stock PR 1.3 and I have applied the last update in summer regarding 3G connectivity.

I have also followed all instructions but receive exactly the same error messages. Standard firmware. I can't remember having had problems with installing via dpkg before.

this is really strange to me. Especially since the last version I omitted anything in /usr/local/share and I still am able to install.
I do have openmode and aegis patched kernel.
But I really really doubt that is the issue.
You can try by escalating priviledges with develsh, after devel-su and see how that changes stuff
