I made all of your suggested changes, but I'm still getting the same error on startup.

I did originally have imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com but thought that was the problem.

So really, the only thing I've changed is the SMPT Port from 25 to 587.

Is it on SSL and not on STARTTLS and is there a log somewhere?

Okay. I think I misunderstood what you posted earlier.

So I now have it changed from this

    to this

    Still the same initial error.

I'll go look for a log file right now.

By the way, I'm currently running Modest until I can get Claws to run. Could there perhaps be some conflict between the two?

Yes, that should be the setting.
As for the log, ~/.claws-mail might be a good place to start, if logging to disk is enabled. If disabled, the option is at Configuration > Preferences > Logging.
Though maybe you can try running
    Code:
    rm -r ~/.claws-mail
and see if clearing out the config and setting everything up again might work.
I don't think there should be any conflict with Modest and Claws (or any other mail client for that matter). Though I stopped using Modest since it didn't have IMAP IDLE and GPG support compiled in.

claws.log, claws.log.bak, filtering.log, and filtering.log.bak have nothing in them, all are 0 byte files.

    Sorry.

    Logging may have been disabled?

    Yeah, logging was disabled.

I check marked everything for logging and refired Claws.

The only thing I see changed is filtering.log and filtering.log.bak
[11:24:17] * message: filtering log enabled

I'm going to remove .claws-mail and try this again.

    Joy!

Starting all over again did the trick.

I'll look into getting that right click for you later tonight.

    Thank you!

    Glad to hear!
If the right-click isn't really possible, it's okay. Mucking around ~/.claws-mail/folderitemrc and changing settings from there will do.
