When device is unused for a couple of seconds, and the screen light turns off (but the screen is still visible), there is some kind of buzzing noise coming out of it.

    Anyone else experience that?

Nope. Has the unit had any encounters with a lot of moisture?

Had it for two days, so no - not in my custody.
The buzzing sound isn't very loud, but if you're in a really quiet room it gets quite annoying.

So, how many people have this problem? Is it just certain units?

Mine does this too -- at any screen brightness level other than 100%, it produces an audible, continuous buzzing sound that is starting to annoy me a bit.

I found out on the toilet. Yes, I got the same thing. Any dimming of the screen, by settings or by 'sleep', causes this.

Hmmm... what is it with the 770 and toilets...?? This has come up a few too many times not to be significant...

Do you also get a flickering on the screen when the backlight is off ?

My second 770 screen died within a week of me receiving it, and I noticed the screen flickered but only when the backlight was off.

I'm wondering if the buzzing leads to the flickering which then leads to the screen giving up ?

You mentioned the buzzing goes away at max brightness. That might explain why some 770's seem to last longer than others, I leave the brightness at about 50% as it comes out the box and my 2 770's have died within a week, others might run them at 100% brightness and so avoid the problem ?

Anyone with a 770 they have bought within the last month that is still OK despite running the screen at less than 100% brightness ?

I really wish Nokia would sort out this problem themselves. They have said nothing as far as I know about this hardware problem. If I've had 2 go this is a very common problem indeed.

I'm never going to be an 'early adopter' on a Nokia product ever again...

Here's an explanation of why LCD screens sometimes make this annoying noise. It seems like some people have this problem on the 770 whereas others don't at all. Quality control issue?

codeboy, very sorry (and fairly concerned) to hear that you've had two 770s die.... Troubling.

Does it happen everywhere? I'm wondering if you're encountering interference.
