just found that the softpoweroff doesn't seem to have the same functionality as Zaurus's suspend option. In Z's case, it is real power saving, since it doesn't have much components working, at least, it turned off my CF wifi completely. While in N800's case, I can even ssh to it. It seems that the softpoweroff only disabled the screen and some of the input. Have I missed anything? Thanks.

I'm also a Zaurus (and a Palm) owner. I never power off the N800 (except when upgrading the firmware). Shutting off and locking the screen (by pressing the power button followed by the button in the center of the D-pad) is essentially the same as suspend mode on the Zaurus, at least as far as power consumption is concerned. The main difference is that wi-fi and/or bluetooth can be left on on the N800 (but will go off on the Z and a Palm). It'll still last up to several days (totally unlike the Palm with wi-fi on..). To get the same effect as a PDA suspend you'll have to turn off the wi-fi and then use the sequence described above (or the menu that pops up with the power button). In this mode it'll last up to ten days, which is more or less the same as a PDA in suspend mode, depending on the battery capacity of the PDA in question. The difference is in the number of keypresses required (the 770 had a cover which would do it all in one go, which some miss and others don't).
