Then why is that? I think we can. Just need to fix poverty, religions and a new Maemo device and it could happen, not under our life time but in 400 years?
Do not slag off fighting amongst the members of the same species. It is the driving force of evolution. It is not only in out mind set, it is in our very DNA. Sure the original reason for it was and still is the shortage of resources but even if the resources suddenly became truly infinite, it would take more than a few hundred years for the struggle to fade away. Evolution works on much longer time scales. Closer to geological epochs than generations.

We'll never live in a post-scarcity civilization due to human greed. Make the food available to all, somebody will always want more because it's in their nature. Greed is built-in to our behavior.
Aliens won't show up and stay if they're smart. Especially ones that have evolved past where we're at in regards to societal interactions and aspirations.

I don't think so...why don't all countries fight then? I don't think greed is the main issue...But yeah we 3 will come so be ready. I might invade your country soon...ahh, on second thought I just learned that I get more and live longer with peace and trade.
If they are smarter than us, they see things in different ways that we can only dream about so we can't understand how they would act or do. Maybe they are already here or left the building
fighting, greed, and all those other factors in our nature most certainly have helped us as a species as much as hindered us ..
Now there just isn't the room or the resource for it.
If we really believe that we are an adaptive, creative, reasoning, intelligent species good at problem solving...
then we should be able to adapt and change and thrive to the situation(s) we are now in and the many other situations we are racing toward...without going extinct (or driving harum scarum every other species to oblivion either...) from our own folly in the process...
