History knows why. Popular opinion states differently. Different era, different fears, different goals. Oil was never primary until OPEC flexed their muscles - then the wars all changed. Before that, the issue was communism.

How's the popular poll on Communism nowdays in the U.S.A?
Do people still fear it like the Gauls fear that the sky falls on their heads?

Nope. We're more afraid of socialism now instead. It gets in the way of rampant greed... I mean capitalism.

What's funny about earth hour; at least here people are encouraged to turn on the lights and light up candles...
Candles being made of paraffine which basically is a byproduct of oil production hence being a major fossile carbon dioxide source

Yeah. But to me earth hour is not to save earth during the hour but to make poeple aware and spread the message so people can improve during the rest of the year.
