In my first couple of year of living in the UK, I begged people to correct my English. Yet very few did. Gerbick is doing Dave a great service.
You mean English is not your mother tongue? I'd never have guessed!
I have a similar problem here in that almost no one corrects my Spanish unless I ask them to, so I keep making the same mistakes over and over. I might have to use your strategy and start begging.
You might know how to spell the words of english but Do you know the history of english and how it came to be the "world's language" and yeah no googling please.

Thanks for the compliment, but no. I am, as the locals say so eloquently, a bloody foreigner. And proud of it. But I've lived here for neatly 18 years so I guess something's bound to stick.
Right. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
OTOH if you"d pay attention, you would have noticed that I was not blaming the tool but my lack of proficiency in using it.

Effective communication doesn't need to follow all of the rules that would possibly apply; however misspells do tend to muddle your message. I think if we were to enforce every grammar rule, we'd have no more time for gadgets, programming or much of anything.
English is a very flawed language. English is a "mutt" language in fact. So let's just try to concentrate on helping others to remove possible obstacles in understanding what they're trying to say and mean. That's why I correct Dave. It's not to prove a point that my English is superior to his. I do it to assist him (and others) to remain easy to understand as part of this discussion forum.
Feel free to dissect the above. I know that I inevitably used something wrong. But I can only hope that my message remains clear.
