I had previously posted a comment about not being able to get on line whenever the WLAN hook-up said local-link to a particular wireless node. Sorry to start another string, but comments posted in a previous string seem to get buried very often.
This afternoon I brought my 770 to a local community pool where I knew there was wireless access (I installed it). I was about 200 feet from the node which is inside the clubhouse. all I could get was a local-link enabled connection, which everybody knows, is no connection at all.
I walked to the other end of the pool (about 80 feet closer to the clubhouse) and tried again. The 770 connected immediately! Then I walked back to the original spot ( in the shade, out of the sun) and the connection held without any problem.
So, it seems that signal strength has a lot to do with the problem.
But not fully, because I ran into the same problem with a very strong signal at a Jet Blue free wireless hot spot.
