BTW, is the apps.formeego.com site source somewhere ? Maybe a community maintained instance could be spawned provided enough people are interested in investing their time and resources in hosting & improving it.

On-device, absolutely not. That would be shooting yourself in the foot, big time if the libraries get overwritten.
On the repo? No problem. RMO's repo can be made so that we add "harmattan" to the dists list.
As for the original topic, I completely agree that we should try to make an open version of the Store app.
Actually, I think MeeCatalog would be a workable base to try to clone Store. It'd make for a good graphical package manager too (the one in Harmattan is junk!)

thought crossed my mind but i wasn't sure in how far it is possible to have that construct for different releases as well
catching up here, admittedly, but what is the package manager in Harmattan ?!?

This thread is just to launch a proposal: why not creating a store with apps coming from the community, without control of Nokia?
