Any idea how one might go about setting up a proxy environment, where different apps would use a socks v5 tunnel?

I've managed to create a shadowsocks Socks v5 proxy.

Using these instructions, I've set up firefox to use the proxy successfully. But on the down side you have to turn proxy use on manually every time you start up the browser..

Besides I still prefer the built in web app and would like to connect to the proxy with other apps too. Namely RSS Feeds and Twitter. Any ideas appreciated! I'm pretty much a noob with this.. :/

What I'm trying to achieve here is to create an N9 that jumps the great firewall of China. The use of OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and Cisco protocols have been made difficult by the government, so what's left is the shadowsocks method, which is a proxy designed to jump firewalls.
