Has anyone got any success getting the packages from debian.org working? and if so with what version? any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe the debian packages will ever be able to run on the IT.

The are compiled for a different architecture than the N770 or 800. But... there is a little project for compiling the Debian backports to ARM, but the site is and has been down for a while
