How will Sailfish recognize the keyboard though?
When an OtherHalf is connected, a pin pressed into the phone. (next to the battery)
This triggers the phone to check if there is a NFC chip, or EEPROM connected. On that chip is an ID number, which is linked to a RPM-package in the store.
So, the keyboard will either have an EEPROM or a NFC chip -at the moment I am investigating the NFC chip, I think this is the easiest and most elegant solution.
NFC chips are pretty cheap and I remember there was an app to write to them on the N9. Fairly simple but there is a possibility you would have to write and test every chip individually. Quick ebay search wielded this. Available in bulk
