No need to, phone is charging fine. Just a dead battery.

I received my 2 batteries and standalone charger today.
I got the phone to turn on with new battery and entered settings like time, date.

phone seems to be charging with ac adapter ac-10u now.
put battery that came with phone in standalone charger. definite difference from the 2 new batteries I got today and battery that came with phone.

I was planning on sending the phone back and I still may. I implore you folks to please help me put this phone through its paces and make sure everything works. I am probably going to pull a all nighter putting this phone through its paces and searching this forum for info.

Woo-hoo! good news! Just the battery (so far...hopefully that is the end of that )
Ach! Charge it up with one of the 2 new batteries that you got...and then take it from there...If it is just the battery that came with your n900...I wouldn't send it back if it were me.
Think of it this way...it isn't an easy thing to find a good n900 in good shape. You say you know little about the platform or device. You say you wanted it in the 1st place for understanding and getting the neo900.
Well...you now have (hopefully) a fully functioning n900....sending it back will get your money back...but will not help you to understand the device better...
If it were myself...I'd keep it...learn maemo5 on it...and (if you have put your money down for a neo900) when it is time to decide whether or not to buy the whole neo900 ready to go..or save a couple hundred...and just get the neo900 board...swap out the n900 board for the new neo900 and away you go...as a topper you always have the old n900 board for ...whatever...as a backup in case something goes wonky with your neo900...or to experiment with...or turn it into a necklace ...a little chunky...but fits with the modern fashion

As far as help goes....this is very helpful.

    http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_The_Perfect_Setup

Past that...read...read...read...try some stuff...if something doesn't work a couple times ...shout ...and hopefully someone will be able to help with the specific prob.

i haven"t seen a dead battery yet , if is fully discharged ,remove battery , connect n900 to pc via usb , wait for the led , insert battery and leave it to charge, by some reason if battery is depleted n900 won"t charge it in other way.
It took me a while to find that

tried that would not work. light blinked for 30-45 minutes then would stop. I have that battery in standalone charger at moment.

search function on talk.maemo.org is not working for me, googled it got maemo.org threads and even a poll found on the subjection.
