Hi All,

Just a little background to start.

As I am in Australia and can't purchase a n800 here I went for a *NEW* one from ebay (hong kong). The seller had lots of great feedback so I thought I would give it a try.

Anyway, it arrived today (joy!). I noticed the packaging was a bit under-done, the product box was dented on the ends and the "Do not accept if seal is broken" sticker was ... broken. All worrying signs but it booted fine - much nicer and faster than the 770 I have had for 18 months.

The only problem is the radio software doesn't output anything and the camera software just freezes. I have had a look for /dev/radio0 and it does not exist!! The camera app just gives some glib error when I run it from xterm.

Has anyone experienced these issues and fixed them without needing to send the product back? I am dreading the fight I might have to put up to get this replaced if need be.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark

p.s. damn my impulse buying!!!!

Sorry to hear that. Which ebay.com.au store did you buy from? After browsing around I decided that sparowhawk's store seems most reliable, as his eBay description was pretty professional, and also the *only* person out of all the HK stores eager to answer my questions, also in a professional manner. It arrived great, and has been working fine since. Anyway, some stores have a disclaimer that states they'll open up your box and boot it up first just in case it's defective/DOA.

Plug in the earbuds, they work as an antenna.

Not sure about the camera though. Maybe you can consider reflashing? YMMV.

I did use sparowhawk and I see now that he does check the product before shipping. He either didn't test the device properly, or Fedex used it as a football

I have tried with the earbuds but without the device node (/dev/radio0) being created it wouldn't matter.

Thanks for your help, zanglang.

I have found that I get the following error when booting:

[ 3.731384] tcm825xsensor_init(): Failed to detect TCM825x sensor chip
[ 3.731781] omap24xxcam: cannot initialize sensor

Has anyone seen such an error?

I have tried various web searches and all I can find is a reference to the comment - "Failed to detect TCM825x sensor chip" - in the actual driver for the camera.

Cheers,
Mark

The first thing you should do when you get a new N800, I think, is flash to the latest version of the firmware. Have you done that?

I didn't but it has the latest version, maybe the seller put it on.

I have a few Glib debug and critical messages as well, but it's probably trivial. I would recommend you try reflashing too, perhaps your firmware is a little corrupted? If that didn't work either contact the store asap.

Yep, I also see a bunch of other errors when I boot but the one about the chip failing to be detected seems pretty odd.

I haven't heard back from the seller yet so I will hold off on attempting to reflash.

Cheers,
Mark
