And the Chinese were also putting in added code to some Chinese made phones running Android to send data back to them.

Should the Russians give us a FOSS OS, i'll be truly grateful. Should it be partially closed source, i'm not going to touch it (but then i don't use any of the chinese phones that send back data to the mother ship. But that's just me).

Read article carefully. OMP developing SailfishOS Mobile RUS for goverment purposes. Not for normal customers. If you not working in russian companies, there is almost no chance you personally will see this OS in real life.

Pity. It would be nice to finally get some professional native applications.

But it begs a question. Are there enough government employees in Russia to justify forking their own OS? A positive answer is something that would worry me...

it is not a fork i think. they will add something for security or whatever russia government want for its companies' phones. but the os is the same and i have a question to coderus. if you say together it means that improvement in code will be upstreamed right? i am not talking about russian government apps or requirement, but features and improvement ..

Well stated and that is my most sincere hope. Just that the current trend is for Jolla to be drifting to the East a bit. The good news is that if it keeps moving East it will eventually make it to the States!

EDIT: Although likely nothing new for anyone in the know here, just saw this posted on xda.
